NDEAM 2026 Mayoral Proclamations
Disability inclusion is driving change and becoming a key factor in business success more than ever before. Mayoral proclamations of October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month enhance the annual recognition of the valuable contributions people who have a disability make to businesses and communities. They also add strength to the call for all businesses in all communities to be strategic and intentional about inclusive hiring, because companies can drive their future success by fully embracing disability inclusion.
Ajax — Mayor Shaun Collier
For another year in a row, Ajax, ON Mayor Shaun Collier proclaimed October 2026 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Amherstburg — Mayor Michael Prue
Again this year, Amherstburg, ON Mayor Michael Prue has proclaimed October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Aurora — Mayor Tom Mrakas
Again this year, Aurora, ON Mayor Tom Mrakas has proclaimed October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
The Town of Aurora is also participating in Light It Up! For NDEAM again this year. The Aurora Town Square will be lit in purple and blue on October 15.
Brampton — Mayor Patrick Brown
This year, for the first time, Brampton, ON Mayor Patrick Brown proclaimed October 2026 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
The City of Brampton is also participating in Light It Up! For NDEAM again this year. The Clock Tower will be lit in purple and blue on October 15.
Brant — Mayor David Bailey
This year, for the first time, Brant, ON Mayor David Bailey proclaimed October 2026 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Essex — Mayor Sherry Bondy
Again this year, Town of Essex, ON Mayor Sherry Bondy has proclaimed October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Niagara Falls — Mayor Jim Diodati
This year, for the first time, Niagara Falls, ON Mayor Jim Diodati proclaimed October 2026 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Midland — Mayor Bryan Paterson
This year, for the first time, Midland, ON Mayor Bill Gordon proclaimed October 2026 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Kingston — Mayor Bryan Paterson
This year, for the first time, Kingston, ON Mayor Bryan Paterson proclaimed October 2026 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Orangeville — Mayor Lisa Post
For another year, Orangeville, ON Mayor Lisa Post has proclaimed October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Pickering — Mayor Kevin Ashe
This year, for the first time, Pickering, ON Mayor Kevin Ashe proclaimed October 2026 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
Quinte West — Mayor Jim Harrison
Again this year, Quinte West, ON Mayor Jim Harrison proclaimed October 2026 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
The City of Quinte West is also participating in Light It Up! For NDEAM. The Quinte West Sign and Veteran’s Skyway Bridge will be specially illuminated purple and blue on October 15.
St. Thomas — Mayor Joe Preston
This year, for the first time, St.Thomas, ON Mayor Joe Preston proclaimed October 2026 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
The Municipality of St.Thomas is also participating in Light It Up! For NDEAM. The Jumbo Monument will be specially illuminated purple and blue on October 15.
Toronto — Mayor Olivia Chow
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow has again this year proclaimed October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month in the province’s capital city.
NDEAM has been proclaimed in Toronto every year since 2019, when ODEN started requesting mayoral proclamations as part of our annual NDEAM campaign.
The City of Toronto has also supported Light It Up! For NDEAM since the event began in 2020.
Vaughan — Mayor Steven Del Duca
This year, for the first time, Vaughan, ON Mayor Steven Del Duca proclaimed October 2026 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
The City of Vaughan is also participating in Light It Up! For NDEAM. The Vaughan City Hall will be specially illuminated purple and blue on October 16.
Whitby — Mayor Elizabeth Roy
This year, for the first time, Whitby, ON Mayor Elizabeth Roy proclaimed October 2026 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
The Town of Whitby is also participating in Light It Up! For NDEAM. The Town Hall will be specially illuminated purple and blue on October 15.
